FLUIDITY

Last week, Karl Lagerfeld unveiled the Chanel Spring 2012 couture collection in Paris. It showcased over one hundred and fifty shades of blue. But Lagerfeld certainly doesn't certainly doesn't have the blues! The upbeat collection centralized on a fashion forward attitude that is both youthful and complex. The various blue hues and unique silhouettes of stretched-out necks and pulled-up sleeves exemplify a playful spirit, while the fine detailing of the clothing add depth to the collection. "A lot of it isn't even fabric," said Lagerfeld. "It's embroidery." The models walked with their hands in slashed pockets, making them appear "like boys whose jeans are slipping off"-- androgyny being a Chanel trademark.  read more

Guests at the show experienced a simulation of a commercial space shuttle flight, Lagerfeld's interpretation of  "blue-sky optimism". During the course of the show, the audience "left" the Earth's atmosphere and headed toward space. During the finale, the Earth passed across the dome ceiling, revealing a starry sky.

The spectrum of blues, along with the visual presentation of the Chanel Spring 2012 collection, coincide with The Color Association’s Spring/Summer 2012 color story (forecasted in 2010), “Fluid”, which features a monochromatic palette of blues from light to dark value. Colors such as “Deep”, “Splash”, “Rain”, and “Icy” were seen all over the Chanel runway.  Lagerfeld’s collection brought these colors to life, surrounding spectators with every blue shade of sea and sky.
