FLUIDITY

Last week, Karl Lagerfeld unveiled the Chanel Spring 2012 couture collection in Paris. It showcased over one hundred and fifty shades of blue. But Lagerfeld certainly doesn't certainly doesn't have the blues! The upbeat collection centralized on a fashion forward attitude that is both youthful and complex. The various blue hues and unique silhouettes of stretched-out necks and pulled-up sleeves exemplify a playful spirit, while the fine detailing of the clothing add depth to the collection. "A lot of it isn't even fabric," said Lagerfeld. "It's embroidery." The models walked with their hands in slashed pockets, making them appear "like boys whose jeans are slipping off"-- androgyny being a Chanel trademark.  read more

THE OBLITERATION ROOM

Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has taken a new outlook on the connection of space and color.  Her new exhibit at Australia’s Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA), called “Look Now, See Forever”, features the “The Obliteration Room”.  It opened on November 4, 2011 until March 2012. Kusama remade a traditional Australian living space, which included chairs, tables, a piano, lamps, couches and other household objects.  All of these components (along with the walls, ceiling and floor) were painted stark white. read more

KOREA VS FRANCE

It’s unusual to see pink cars in the United States (unless you’re a star performer within the ranks of Mary Kay) but in South Korea, they’re considered a mild form of rebellion, where nine out of 10 cars are silver, black, or white.  In fact, no country has as high a proportion of these three colors as does South Korea, where fitting in, versus standing out, is the norm....  read more

EYE POPPING BOTTOMS

It’s always nice to see validation that our color trends are right on track. A case in point is the Spring/Summer 2011 line of J Brand’s colored denim.

The collection of eye-popping hues was featured in the New York Times’ Sunday Styles section this past weekend, and clearly parallels key colors from The Color Association’s Spring/Summer 2011 Women’s forecasted colors. read more

BEAUTY IN GLASSYBABY

Can there be anything more beautiful than glowing colors against a simple backdrop of white built-in shelves and exposed brick walls?  We don’t think so, which is why we held the launch of our new Beauty Color Forecast for S/S 2013 at the New York outpost of glassybaby.

Catherine Middleton stepped out of the Queen’s 1977 black Rolls-Royce in a stunning ivory Sarah Burton creation – a nod to the late British designer Alexander McQueen (for whom Burton has taken over the helm).

As described by Burton herself, "Alexander McQueen's designs are all about bringing contrasts together to create startling and beautiful clothes and I hope that by marrying traditional fabrics and lacework, with a modern structure and design we have created a beautiful dress for Catherine on her wedding day”  read more     posted May 1, 2011  by Roseanna Roberts

COCO PINK IS HOT HOT HOT

Guest Blog from Marisa

I’ve always been a lipstick addict, even before I was old enough to wear it.  I loved everything about it- the packaging, the smell, the shiny bullet shape and the brighter the color the better. As I got older and became involved in art, most of my work also reflected that love and instead of flowers and fruits, my still life drawings and paintings always included a tube of lipstick somewhere and almost always, it was hot pink.  How ironic - or maybe it’s just kismet, that I grew up to be not only a makeup artist, but also a color specialist at Three Custom Color where I get to create color, blend, and mold lipstick all by hand.   read more
